Week 13_Response_Tillman

For this response, I chose "One Small Step" by TIAKO Studios. I thought this animation was completely amazing. The emotions of the characters and ability to showcase the feelings of these characters without dialogue was perfect. I was completely enamored by their expressions and the subtle movements used to breathe life into these figures. Meanwhile, I also thought that the use of 3D animation was stellar. The way it was created, the works almost read as 2D; I thought that the use of 2D techniques on the 3D figures helped emphasize their emotions. This feature can mainly be seen on Luna's hair in the clip. The use of setting in the animation was also very clever. The sets were nearly constant throughout the work. The audience mainly saw the living room, craft room, and college before the father died. Then, when the character starts to re-embrace her life, the audience is introduced to even more settings and characters. Finally, the music in the piece also completed the work even more than any form of dialogue. It essentially functioned as the character's "words" and flowed perfectly from the happy moments in Luna's life to the worst. Overall, I really loved this piece. I believe that the short film deserves every award it has recieved.
