Week 4_Response_William

For this response, I have chosen "Reservoir" by Metronomy.

This music video appears to be in a 2D format entirely comprised of color makers on tan paper, or something to that equivalent. The style is not only done professionally and very cleanly, but also gains some interesting benefits by nature of its tools.

Because color markers shade a bit different with each stroke, every frame has its own patterning for the color filled in. Thus, the viewer receives much better recognition for all the frames they had to color to animate this, and it kills me just to quantify it.

Unlike the deeply saturated primary colors that come in standard color kits, the color palette within the video is much more mellow, with a wide spectrum that is overall toned down slightly. It can still be vivid, but it feels more managed and deliberately reigned in when necessary.

"Reservoir" contains a lot of great linework and perspectives. Many shapes move in a wobbly but smooth fashion, which can be very difficult to perfect. I also appreciated the spiral pattern shifts, dynamic camera, and flyovers of drawn locations that still had a realistic weight to the camera movement.

Overall, I just have to admire the tremendous amount of ambition and work that went into this project. The low-key music might trick you for a bit, but the music video contains wonderfully smooth movement, frequent camera movements (which is very hard in animation), and a signature look that not many other works can replicate. One of the best works on file so far.
