Week 2_Response_Will_Everett
For this response, I have chosen the "Rasputin" Collage Animation by Joud Tanta.
While "Reality" and "Flying" provided more atmosphere and consistent color palettes, "Rasputin" carries a much more active energy with its animated visual gags. Backgrounds, props, and actors rotated much more frequently, and many movements are directly synchronized with the eponymous music. The dominant examples of such deliberate synchronization are with the instruments and singers that appear throughout the work.
All transitions from location to location are quite smooth, yet many props, such as the clapping hands, appear quite abruptly into frame. I personally interpret this choice to be deliberate, in that such quick edits embody the youthful passions of an amateur, while the larger transitions help maintain a sense of polish. This creates the best of both worlds, as the work can keep a high energy without appearing too crude.
Given the work's focus on visuals and timing, I cannot gleam any deep meaning within it myself, but that does not inhibit other viewers from attempting so. For me, its entertainment value is valid enough.
Also the cat in the Russian hat was a nice touch. I like the Cat in the Russian Hat.
