Week 2_Research_Simons

Makoto Shinkai is a Japanese animator, filmmaker, and manga artist. He is primarily known for his recent film successes Your Name and Weathering With You. I personally love these films, and they inspire me to improve my drawing skill. The overall process used in Shinkai's movies is astoundingly thorough and beautiful. His use of backgrounds and scenery is exemplary, especially relating to color and shading. His movies distinctly features lots of open skies, clouds, fields, and rays of light. Shinkai's films execute these backgrounds to absolute perfection. The peace and serenity of every frame is striking; the slower scenes really give the viewer time to admire the art. Overall, my artistic style is not quite similar to Shinkai, however I strive to eventually achieve the kind of artistry he displays.
